We’re on a mission to help shorter men dress with confidence

Abbreviated was founded by Mike Monnette in San Francisco, California in 2023. Before launching Abbreviated, Mike spent a decade running menswear departments for some of the biggest clothing brands in the world, watching first hand as these companies tailored their Medium size product to fit a 6’ tall “fit model”. Knowing the average height for men in the U.S. is 5’9”, this always felt ridiculous to Mike.

Standing at 5’8” with an athletic build, Mike had always found shopping for clothes to be a frustrating experience despite his role on the inside of the fashion industry. He had a love for men’s style and fashion, but was left choosing between poorly fitting clothing or expensive bills at the tailor. In his search for a better fit, he even went as far as buying a sewing machine to begin altering his own clothes. It felt crazy that despite many men measuring shorter than 5’10”, there were very few stylish clothing options for shorter guys. After speaking with friends who were about his height, Mike confirmed he wasn’t alone in these struggles and began considering how he could use his experience to fix this problem.

By the spring of 2023, Mike had had enough. He left his corporate retail job and rolled up his sleeves, intent on taking everything he’d learned over the previous ten years and putting it to work to solve this problem not only for himself, but for tens of millions of shorter men across the country.

At Abbreviated, we believe that great fitting clothes will not only help a man look good, but more importantly, can give the confidence needed to overcome the challenges and negative feelings that can come with being a shorter guy. We celebrate our height at Abbreviated and are rewriting the rules of fashion to ensure all men have the option to dress confidently with great fitting, stylish, reasonably priced clothing, and we invite you to join us for the ride.
